The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to transforming Ghana’s agricultural sector, citing significant progress made under the Feed Ghana programme.
Speaking at the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration in Ho, the Minister said the Ministry has, over the past 11 months, laid a strong foundation for agricultural transformation.
“Over the past 11 months, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has laid a solid foundation for agricultural transformation. All our actions have been informed by science and we believe that collaboration between the research institutions and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture is indispensable for the achievement of food and nutrition security,” he stated.
Mr. Opoku explained that the Ministry has worked tirelessly to advance the vision of agricultural transformation, with the Feed Ghana programme already delivering concrete results. These include expanded irrigation projects, mechanisation support, reforms in seed and fertiliser distribution, livestock improvement initiatives, and strengthened value chain development.
“These interventions are not abstract policy ideas. They are transforming rural livelihoods, increasing productivity and creating opportunities for farmers, especially women and the youth,” he added.
The Minister emphasised that the government’s approach is rooted in science and collaboration, stressing that partnerships with research institutions remain crucial to achieving food and nutrition security.
The Farmers’ Day celebration, which honours the contributions of farmers and fisherfolk to national development, brought together stakeholders from across the agricultural value chain.
